Parenting the Parentless Minimize
Feb 17

Well it's Feburary which means birthdays. Ash Mercy and I are all Feburary birthdays which means we could get it all over with in about 2 weeks. At least until DJ came along in Nov. which through the whole process off.

Birthdays in India are much more exciting then I remember them in America. In the states they come and go with barely a nod. But here to ecscape it's nearly impossible.

Before I left America I was going to get a cellphone that could contain all my contacts my schedule and everything else. But then after talking with a couple different people it seems not everything that works in America works here in India. So I decided to wait till I got to India to get it. Then when we arrived we were so busy getting everything else we needed that there wasn't much money for anything extra. In the states you can get a fairly nice phone by signing a service contract. In India there really isn't anything similar. So I got a 20$ phone that would ring and didn't do much more.

This year for my Birthday Mercy went out and spent more then she should have and got me a nice phone that would actually hold some phone numbers and contact and had some other functionality. You know the feling when you get exactly what you wanted. That illusive thing your searching for when your trying to track down that gift for your spouse. Well Mercy hit it. It was exactly what I wanted and never would have purchased for myself.

It was great for 3 days. This morning after my coffe and some other things I began to look for my new phone. After I couldn't find it for a while I began to feel like Gollum looking for "My Precious, my birthday present." Well after a few minutes I decided I needed to ask my wife. A little embarressed that I had already lost it. Well it seems she had seen it in the living room earlier. We went to look but it was gone. We called it and it had been switched off. We got to thinking and realized that earlier in the morning a delivery had arrived.

There is a local dealer that delivers water to your house. The tap water here in India is only slightly better then the water in Mexico so you only drink it as a last resort. Instead we purchase water in 5 Gal. drums and have it delivered. The phone was siting in the living room before he arrived was gone after he left. And so it goes. Hey it was nice for 3 days. Guess I need to go see if I can find my old one now that rings and doesn't do much else. Not many features but the delivery boy at least let me keep it.

    There and Back Again.

Re: Birthday's in India

One additional note. We did speak to the owner of the company a Mr. S. Shiva Kumar he of course denied any responsibility for the actions of his employees. So if you happen to be in India looking for bottled water avoid "Honey Rich".

Re: Birthday's in India

Happy Birthday! I am so sorry to hear about your phone. Can I send you a phone from the U.S.? I am sure I have a phone that does more than ring and you could keep your contacts. Would it make it through customs? Also I am interested in seeing what it might cost to have you develop a website for me. Can you do that from there for me here in the US?
