When you see the children picking rags, sleeping on the streets, working instead of studying, newborn girl being abandoned by her parents and poor infrastructure as well as low educational standard in government schools, you must have felt “I wish I could do something?” There are some youth who wish to do something for these deprived people. But most of them do not involve in volunteering work because of three major reasons—not knowing where to start, the fear that it may be too much of responsibility and concern that it cannot be done with their limited time availability.

Internationally-adopted children show questionable vaccination records

The nearly 250,000 foreign-born children adopted into American families over the last 15 years are disproportionately likely to have gay or lesbian parents. A new study suggests that parents should not necessarily trust the foreign vaccination records of their children.

Dr. Emaculate Verla-Tebit and colleagues at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland reached that conclusion based on analysis of the vaccination records and blood antibody levels of five common early childhood vaccinations in 397 foreign-born adopted children. The study was published in the May 4 issue of the journal Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine.

Banned Kuwait-based NGO runs covertly

The Bangladesh chapter of Kuwait-based NGO Revival of Islamic Heritage Society (RIHS) is still running its offices and covert activities although its registration was cancelled nearly two years ago.The NGO spends at least Tk 2 lakh a month, said a few contractors who worked for RIHS. But the source of this money remains mysterious because foreign funding of RIHS was stopped and its bank accounts closed following the cancellation of registration, they said.

Run for the Orphans set to take off April 4

Hudson -- It started with an idea in 2007 which has grown to a full-fledged four-mile race. The four miles that will be covered in Hudson April 4 at the second annual Run for the Orphans will stretch across the globe.The run, for both kids and adults, will have two parts, both starting at Seton Catholic School, 6923 Stow Road.Orphanages in Zambia, Ghana, Rwanda, Uganda and Honduras will benefit from the run, along with Berea Christian Children's Home.

Orphanages in Pune keep video records of their children

The Society of Friends of Sassoon Hospital (SOFOSH) and Bhartiya Samaj Seva Kendra (BSSK), the two orphanages in Pune(India), have come up with a novel way of maintaining records of their children by using video technology.

The videos of the orphans would be saved in compact discs (CD) and will contain detailed information about the infants, which will be help to those who adopt them.
