Supporters believe an innovative program in Tanzania to care for infants of mothers who die in childbirth might hold the key to cutting infant mortality rates and caring for Africa's 50 million orphans. Infants are cared for during the first two to three years of life at the Berega Orphanage, where female members of their extended families also reside, before returning home to their villages.

The Barnabus Fund reports that since June 6, the Myanmar military has attacked the mountain villages in search of Karen rebels, killing residents as they flee, or giving them extremely hard labor and sometimes even using them as human land mine sweepers.

Fundraiser to benefit Chinese orphans at Yiyang Social Welfare Institute

A fundraiser is being organized to benefit Chinese orphans currently residing at the Yiyang Social Welfare Institute in Hunan Province. Organized by a group of parents of children adopted from Yiyang city, the fundraiser will enable the group to purchase clothing for 50 children still residing at the orphanage. These parents will be traveling to visit the Social Welfare Institute this summer. The goal of the fundraiser is $600. Parents have already raised $90 with lemonade and ice pop sales.
