First the Good news. I got a job. Ok maybe not that good. Work is a funny thing. While you do it you can't wait to stop. After you stop for a while and the bank account gets a little low you can't wait to start. Earlier I mentioned that things where a lot more expensive then we remember and a 10% slide in the dollar had really left us flat footed. We did manage to get by but it didn't take long before our funds started to dwindle. Originally we were thinking I'd be off for at least 3 to 6 months while we got everything straightened out but the new budget wouldn't allow for that. So Hi HO Hi HO ...

Ok time for shameless plug. The company I work for is Osprosys. We are located in the heart of Bangalore. We provide a large variety of services. I'm personnaly envolved with the application / website development side of things. If you need any development work done feel free to contact me via Osprosys.com.

Ok the bad news. Our shipment arrived earlier then we expected. Ok at first that didn't seem like bad news. Having 2 pairs of black socks and 2 pairs of dress pants gets old after a while. Not to mention all the rest of our stuff. We heard it had arrived on the 16th. We got a quote for shiping the stuff to Bangalore which was 10,000 rs ($250) so we factored it into our budget and everything looked ok. However yesterday we got an invoice in the mail. Seems that the port costs are going to be over $1000 and customs could easily run another $1000. Ok can anyone say bad timing. Not sure what we are going to do about it at this point. Mercy is going to talk to the port today to find out if this is for real. It was our understanding that the shipping costs we paid before we left covered all this. Now it apears that it only covers getting it to the port. Getting off the ship and everything there after is extra.

Re: Good news and bad news.

It is not worth shipping stuff (like clothes) to India. Cheaper to buy it new. Also, if you had delicates...it is almost guaranteed to be broken. Had a similar problem when I tried to bring to India a generator 20 years ago....it never survived the trip .
