After my last post I realized it might be fun to actually come up with our top 10 reasons. So here they go Jay Leno style.
#10 Jileby - I fell in love with these little guys during my first trip. It's a type of batter made into a shape similar to a pretezel and deep fat fried. Fresh out of the greese they litterally melt in your mouth with the sweet suger syrup coating the inside of your mouth with a warm glaze. However though my wife disagrees to me cold or even a few hours old they are simply a sticky mess not worth the effort. The need to have them hot and fresh makes it something nearly impossible to enjoy anywhere but India.
#9 The Spices - Everywhere and in everything. It's like being House Atreides on Dune with the spice effecting everything. So many flavors and viarities even a novice can make something taste good.
#8 Laborers - In India if you never have to break a sweat if you don't want to. For $1 or $2 you can hire one of the hundreds of laborers hanging around looking for work. Moving in or moving out of an apartment. Hire a group of guys for $20 and then watch them do the job.
#7 Maid – Tired of cleaning the floors doing the dishes and taking out the trash? For $10 a month you can hire a maid to show up for 60 minutes every other day to help with the household chores.
#6 Cheap Health Care – This one came to light when we went to pay for the prenatal care my wife had received. The total was over $1600 dollars for some tests a couple consultations and 2 Ultrasounds. When we got the bill my wife remarked that the entire pregnancy including hospital stay and delivery would cost less then that in India,
#5 Transportation System – No matter where you are in India you can get to any other part of India without ever having to drive yourself. In fact many people in India never even have a driver’s license. Of course that’s true whether they drive not.
#4 Morality – It’s changing but India still has a much higher and better sense of morality then even Iowa to say nothing of the costal parts of America.
#3 Family Value – Indians put a much higher priority on family then they do finances or success. This is of course gradually changing as well as the rat race with the rest of the world heats up. However for the time being India is far better then Iowa.
#2 Cost of living – Lunch will cost about $2 rent about $300. Electric $30. Over all cost of living is ½ to 1/10 that of Iowa.
#1 Weather – I thought it would be #6 but it turned out to be #1. As I write this Iowa is in the high 80’s to low 90’s while Bengaluru is a cool 68. Never to Hot never to Cold. When compared to Iowa’s Blisters and blizzards the #1 reason India is better then Iowa has to be the weather.
